In late December 2025, Morbi police apprehended five people accused of honeytrap extortion after a farmer reported being lured and cheated using a deceptive trap. According to local news reports, the gang targeted a senior farmer by sending a woman posing as a farm labourer, gaining his trust under the pretext of work, and then trapping him in a honeytrap scheme to extort money and valuables.
🔎 How the Honeytrap Worked
- The accused allegedly contacted the complainant (a farmer) by pretending a woman was seeking farm work.
- The woman, reportedly accompanied by others, purportedly engaged him in conversation and then staged a compromising situation.
- Members of the gang then took photos and videos of the farmer in the staged situation.
- They used the recordings to blackmail him, threatening to lodge false complaints or make the materials public unless he paid a large sum of money.
💰 Seizure of Cash and Valuables
- During the police operation, officers seized cash and gold jewellery believed to represent the extorted value from the victim.
- Reports indicate items such as gold biscuits and gold chains worth several lakhs were recovered, totalling an approximate value of ₹50–53 lakh in cash and jewellery.
👮 Arrests and Police Action
- Morbi police acted swiftly and arrested five suspects in connection with the honeytrap extortion case within hours of the complaint being registered.
- The arrested individuals reportedly included both male and female suspects allegedly involved in luring and extorting the complainant.
- Law enforcement recovered evidence, including vehicles used in the crime and the seized valuables, which are being processed as part of the investigation.
📌 Investigation Status
- The Morbi police have registered an official FIR and are investigating the full extent of the gang’s activities, including whether similar honeytrap schemes were carried out against other victims in the region.
- Police are also examining digital evidence and call records to identify any broader network or accomplices who might be involved.
